2 out of 5 stars Works O.K. for table top....large USB plug-in bad for lap use   January 3, 2009
This mouse is comfortable in hand, works well and was extremely easy to set up. Unfortunately the little USB stick receiver was a problem from day 1. The little wand that plugs into the USB port sticks out quite a ways out from the side of my laptop. When I worked on the couch, chair, bed...I kept bumping it on my legs, arm of chair, cat, etc. and eventually each little wiggle or bump would cause it to lose its connection. I became afraid that I would bump it too hard and mess up my USB port and also got sick of plugging it in and out all the time and attaching it to and from the actual mouse to try to save the battery. Battery life was a big dissappointment as we had to replace the first time after about 2 weeks. When I found a wireless mouse that I could connect with only a tiny thing sticking out(nano receiver) and leave plugged in all the time and just switch it off and on easily...well I bought the new one and my Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000 now sits in a drawer in case of a mouse emergency. It is unfortunate that a mouse that is advertised for use with notebook really is not practical for laptop/notebook use because of the big receiver stick hanging out so far. So, great for desks, but I would definately consider a mouse with nano receiver for laptop/notebook use if you'll be doing your computing anywhere else.

5 out of 5 stars Comfort, sensitivity -- and cool colors   January 2, 2009

Microsoft has entered the "color market" with this sleek, comfortable wireless mouse designed for notebooks. It is slightly larger than some designed for laptops, although it's still smaller than a traditional mouse. My small hands fit perfectly around this mouse without fatigue. Even better, unlike the Logitech MX 1100 Cordless Laser Mouse (910-000718), the design is symmetrical, so a lefty like me can use it with comfort. Because the mouse is fast and sensitive, users who prefer a slower response will have to change their settings. The transmitter is strong enough to pick up mouse navigation if you sit several feet back from your computer. I haven't tested the full range because the farthest I can get from my computer is about four feet. The biggest drawback is the loose-fitting USB connection; although it does not interrupt usage, I'm concerned that the transmitter could snap off or damage the USB port.

For Mac users: this mouse has features that are unavailable to Apple one-click mouses. You can get a list of options by right-clicking, depending on what you're doing (word processing, web browsing, etc.). The wheel in the center scrolls, albeit not as smoothly as it should, and, if you depress the scroll button, you get Dashboard on your screen.

Customers with large hands might find this mouse suitable only for occasional use since it is designed for portability.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic   January 1, 2009
This is a great mouse. Ne problems, plug in play with XP. Very sensitive, great battery life.

5 out of 5 stars Very good little wireless mouse   December 30, 2008
My wife wanted a wireless mouse for her laptop and I was having a hard time finding a decent one that didn't cost an arm and a leg. This one definitely fit the bill. The batteries seem to last forever in it and it works like a charm. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent mouse for laptops   December 30, 2008
I have a fairly old laptop with very messed up USB ports. An older version of this mouse barely worked; if I didn't plug the mouse into a USB extender cord, the receiver would blink and the mouse would have very bad movement. When the receiver light is on, the mouse is receiving input. When it blinked, the receiver would only receive input from the mouse for a second, and then stop, receive for a second, and then stop, and on and on. It was very annoying.

But so far, I haven't had that problem with this one. The receiver has a great range; about 4 or 5 feet. I don't even use a mouse pad; I just plop it down wherever I am and it just works.

Very good value for the price. Don't go any more expensive or cheaper than this.
